The Coalition’s technology infrastructure is designed to take the region’s early childhood professional development system further into the 21st century. Its goal is to address barriers created by geography and time, maximize and create new shared resources, and create a collaborative community of learning. It also provides opportunity for individualized instruction.
The Southern Illinois Council for an Early Childhood Workforce, is responsible for exploring effective ways to embed the use of this new available technology into professional development and ongoing professional learning.
The approach for “connecting professionals to quality” is critical to supporting the role of the teacher and staff through an integrated community of learning. Bringing educators together to focus on instructional improvement can promote systemic change, as well as professional learning. The use of technology to support adult learning is cost effective and provides opportunities to reach professionals who are sometimes limited in their ability to participate in traditional professional development because of time limitations.
