Child Development

Child development is the progression by which children change as they grow older. During this process, they acquire and refine new knowledge, behaviors, and skills. Child development generally involves observing/assessing five specific areas: motor/physical, cognitive, social/emotional, communication/language, and self-help/adaptive. While all children develop at their own rate, experts have identified specific milestones for each age level that can help parents, doctors, teachers and others assess whether a child's development is on track. Children reach milestones in how they play, learn, speak, act, and move (crawling, walking, etc.).
