school readiness- making the connections
Partners in the Coalition believes every child deserves the right to a bright and successful future. For children to succeed, communities need to provide a continuum of high-quality programs and services, along with supports for their family from cradle to career. To make sure that exists in southern Illinois, Coalition partners have taken important first steps by working together, assessing and connecting resources, identifying service gaps in services, and creating a sustainable infrastructure .that supports school readiness. |
Connecting for Success
Parents, teachers and community members all have important roles in insuring that ALL children in southern Illinois receive a quality education. Over the years, research has clearly demonstrated that high-quality, developmentally appropriate early childhood programs produce short- and long-term positive effects on children's cognitive and social development. Connecting and enrolling children to high quality early learning opportunities, connecting programs and teachers to resources that help them provide high quality programs, and connecting and coordinating community resources and information are key strategies undertaken by Coalition members to promote early learning and school readiness. |
Connect 2 Quality provides the framework for the Coalition's initiatives/ activities designed to promote access to high quality programs. Current activities include participation in Child Find enrollment events and tools to help parents understand and make informed decisions about their child's early learning choices.
Connecting 4 Quality is the framework that describes the Coalition's activities designed to promote quality programs with highly qualified teachers. Previous initiatives included a network of professional development providers, a teacher "Think Tank", teacher to teacher professional development events, and co=sponsorship of a recognition program for newly credentialed educators.
